The Silver Tip Tetra (Hasemania nana) is a lively and attractive freshwater schooling fish admired for its shimmering silver-gold body and distinctive bright silver-tipped fins. Based on the image, these fis h display a beautiful metallic sheen with subtle golden highlights that create a sparkling effect when swimming in groups.
Known for their energetic behavior and peaceful nature, Silver Tip Tetras are an excellent choice for community aquariums. Their active schooling movement adds life and motion to planted tanks, making them a favorite among both beginner and experienced aquarists.
These hardy fish adapt well to a variety of water conditions and thrive when kept in groups of six or more. Their striking coloration becomes even more vibrant in well-maintained aquariums with quality nutrition and proper lighting.

Diet
- Quality Flakes: Use high-protein tropical flakes as the daily base of their diet.
- Micro-Pellets: Small, slow-sinking pellets work well because these fish feed aggressively at the surface and mid-water.
- Color-Enhancing Foods: Formulas with spirulina or astaxanthin help deepen their bright copper and silver tones.
-
Feed these protein-rich options 2 to 3 times a week to trigger natural foraging behavior and boost health:
- Brine Shrimp (live or frozen)
- Daphnia Forzon or live Bloodworms
- Tank Mates
- Other Tetras: Fast-moving species like Neon Tetras or similar robust tetras.
- Bottom Dwellers: Corydoras Catfish and Kuhli Loaches stay out of their primary mid-to-top swimming zone.
- Algae Eaters: Bristlenose plecos are sturdy and peaceful companions.
- Active Nano Fish: Fast rasboras or small barbs that can keep up with their pace.
