The Mountain Minnow Fish, commonly known as the White Cloud Mountain Minnow, is a small, peaceful freshwater aquarium fish admired for its attractive silver body, reddish-orange fins, and shimmering lateral stripe. Its active swimming behavior and compact size make it a popular choice for community aquariums and smaller freshwater setups.
The White Cloud Mountain Minnow is a schooling fish and generally displays more natural behavior when maintained in an appropriate group. It is an active swimmer that can add continuous movement and color to a freshwater aquarium. This species is well suited to aquarists looking for a small, colorful, peaceful freshwater fish that can adapt to a variety of properly maintained aquarium environments. Mountain Minnows are a great option for aquarists looking for a small, active, and colorful schooling fish. Their shimmering body and red-toned fins provide attractive contrast in planted aquariums and community tanks.
Their peaceful nature makes them suitable for compatible community setups, while their schooling behavior can create an engaging display when kept in a suitable group.
Maintain clean, stable freshwater conditions with adequate filtration and regular water changes. Provide open swimming areas along with plants, rocks, driftwood, or other decorations that offer shelter. White Cloud Mountain Minnows are traditionally associated with cooler water than many tropical aquarium species, so avoid keeping them in unnecessarily warm conditions. Select tank mates with compatible temperature and temperament requirements.
- Temperature: 14°C–22°C (58°F–72°F). They prefer cooler water and can suffer from stress or reduced lifespans if kept long-term above 22°C–25°C.
- pH Level: 6.0–8.0 (neutral to slightly alkaline or acidic).
- Water Hardness: 5–19 dGH (soft to moderately hard).
- General Chemistry: Zero ammonia, zero nitrites, and low nitrates (under 20–50 mg/L). They are sensitive to copper medications.
- Water Flow: Moderate movement is appreciated, mimicking their natural stream habitats.

- Dry foods: High-quality nano pellets, crushed flakes, or spirulina flakes.
- Live or frozen treats: Daphnia, cyclops, baby brine shrimp, and bloodworms.
