The German Blue Ramirezi fish, also known as the German Blue Ram or Blue Ram Cichlid, displays shimmering blue scales with colourful accents that make it stand out among aquarium fish. Its small size and interesting behaviour make it a favourite among experienced fishkeepers and enthusiasts of planted aquariums.
This fish thrives in a well-maintained freshwater aquarium with stable water parameters, gentle filtration, plenty of hiding places, and a peaceful environment. It prefers warm, clean water and a varied diet of quality micro pellets, suitable frozen foods, and other appropriately sized foods.
- Temperature: 78°F – 86°F (25°C – 30°C) (sweet spot is 80°F – 84°F / 27°C – 29°C; avoid dropping below 76°F)
- pH Level: 5.5 – 7.0 (slightly acidic to neutral)
- Water Hardness (GH): 0 – 6 dGH (soft to moderately soft water)
- Total Dissolved Solids (TDS): ~40 – 140 ppm
- Ammonia: 0 ppm (any detectable level is dangerous)
- Nitrite: 0 ppm (any detectable level is dangerous)
- Nitrate: < 20 ppm (keep well below 40 ppm)
Diet
- Sinking Micro-Pellets: High-quality micro-pellets or small cichlid granules should form the core daily base.
- Tropical Flakes: Finely crushed tropical or cichlid flakes, Blood worm Pellets are readily accepted, though sinking foods are preferred as they forage near the bottom.
- Frozon or Live:-Â Blood worms, Micro Worms and Grindal Worms.
Tank Mates
Neon, Cardinal, Rummynose, Black Neon tetras, Corydoras, Dwarf Gourami and Cherry barbs.
- Lifespan: 2–4 years under optimal conditions, though poor breeding lines, high stress, or sensitive water parameter shifts can shorten this to 1.5 years or less. They mature quickly and reach breeding size within 4 to 6 months.
