Red Ember Tetra – Beautiful Small Tropical Aquarium Fish
Bring a warm splash of colour to your aquarium with the Red Ember Tetra (Hyphessobrycon amandae), a small and peaceful freshwater fish known for its glowing orange-red body. Its attractive coloration and gentle temperament make it a popular choice for planted aquariums, nano tanks and peaceful community setups.
Red Ember Tetras are schooling fish that look especially beautiful when kept in groups. Their small size and active swimming behaviour add movement and colour among aquatic plants, driftwood and natural aquarium decorations.

- Water Hardness: Soft to moderately soft (2 to 10 dGH, or roughly 18 – 179 ppm).
- Ammonia & Nitrite: 0 ppm (must be fully cycled).
- Nitrate: Below 20 ppm (ideally under 10 ppm).
- Total Dissolved Solids (TDS): 80 – 200 ppm in typical home setups.
Diet
- Staple Foods: Crushed tropical flakes, nano pellets (0.5–1 mm), or micro-pellets formulated for small fish.
- Live & Frozen Treats:Â small bloodworms. Baby brine shrimp
- Feeding Schedule: Offer small amounts 2 to 3 times a day—only what they can finish in 60 to 90 seconds—and include a weekly light fast day to prevent bloating.
