Striped Batik Nerite Snail

Enhance your aquarium with the Striped Batik Nerite Snail, a beautiful ornamental snail known for its unique shell patterns featuring contrasting dark, yellow, and orange markings. Its eye-catching appearance adds natural detail to planted aquariums, aquascapes, and peaceful freshwater setups.

Nerite snails are popular among aquarium hobbyists because they graze on algae growing on aquarium glass, rocks, and other hard surfaces. Their interesting movement and distinctive shell designs make them an excellent choice for aquarists who want both beauty and useful algae-grazing activity.

Ideal Water Parameters

• Temperature: 72°F – 78°F (22°C – 26°C)
• pH Level:0 – 8.5 (neutral to slightly alkaline)
• Water Hardness (GH / KH): 6 – 12 dGH (or higher, up to 18 dGH) to provide essential calcium and magnesium for shell maintenance
• Ammonia: 0 ppm
• Nitrite: 0 ppm
• Nitrate: Under 20 ppm

Salinity: Freshwater (though they originate from freshwater and brackish zones, they do not require brackish water to live as adults, though larvae need it to develop)

Key Features

• Distinctive striped shell: Attractive dark and golden-yellow markings create a beautiful natural pattern.
• Algae-grazing behaviour: Helps graze on algae growing on aquarium glass, rocks, and decorations.
• Compact size: Suitable for many freshwater aquariums when stocking and water quality are appropriate.
• Peaceful nature: Generally compatible with peaceful fish and other suitable aquarium inhabitants.
• Aquascaping appeal: Adds visual interest to planted tanks and natural aquarium layouts.
• No freshwater population explosion: Nerite snails generally do not establish a reproducing population in freshwater, although they may lay eggs that do not hatch there.

Care and Maintenance

Keep the Striped Batik Nerite Snail in a mature aquarium with stable water parameters and a natural supply of algae or biofilm. If natural grazing is insufficient, provide suitable supplementary foods.

Good water quality and adequate calcium availability help support shell health. Avoid copper-based medications and aggressive fish that may attack snails.

Ideal For

Freshwater planted aquariums, aquascaping setups, peaceful community tanks, and aquarium enthusiasts looking for a patterned ornamental snail with natural algae-grazing behaviour.

Care tip: Introduce the snail gradually and ensure the aquarium has enough available food. An aquarium that is excessively clean may not provide sufficient algae for it to thrive.
