Add a beautiful glowing effect to your aquarium with the Glow Light Tetra Fish (Hemigrammus erythrozonus), a small, peaceful and attractive freshwater schooling fish. Also commonly known as the Glowlight Tetra, this species is admired for its translucent body and distinctive bright orange-red stripe that runs from the head toward the tail.
Glow Light Tetras are active community fish that look especially attractive when kept in a group. Their shimmering appearance becomes more noticeable under aquarium lighting, making them a popular choice for planted aquariums, nano setups and peaceful community tanks.
These peaceful tetras are best maintained in groups, where they can display natural schooling and swimming behavior. Keeping them with other similarly sized, peaceful community fish can create a lively and visually appealing freshwater aquarium.
Keep Glow Light Tetras in a group of at least 6 fish, with larger groups often producing more natural schooling behavior. Provide open swimming space along with plants, driftwood and other décor that gives the fish places to explore and feel secure.
Feed a varied diet consisting of quality tropical flakes or small pellets supplemented with appropriately sized frozen or live foods. Feed only an amount that the fish can comfortably consume within a few minutes.
Maintain good filtration, regular water changes and stable water parameters. Avoid keeping them with aggressive or very large fish that may intimidate or prey on them.
- Temperature: 72°F – 82°F (22°C – 28°C)

- Small Schooling Fish: Other peaceful tetras like neon, ember, or rummy-nose tetras, as well as small rasboras (such as harlequin or Espei rasboras), make great companions.
- Bottom Dwellers: Corydoras catfish (like bronze, peppered, or panda corys) and small peaceful loaches like the kuhli loach safely occupy the lower water column without conflict.
- Centerpiece Fish: Honey gouramis or dwarf gouramis add a nice splash of color and stay gentle enough not to intimidate the tetras.
- Invertebrates: Nerite snails, mystery snails, and adult neocaridina shrimp (like cherry shrimp) generally coexist peacefully
